Witch at Blackbird Pond

Do you believe in witches? What about the little old lady that lives by herself and depends on no one? Would you point at her and whisper witch?

When America was first being settled this happened. Many ‘witch hunts’ were held. The accused would then go through a series of tests to prove that they weren’t a witch.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond takes you back to that time. Kit, being recently orphaned, finds her way to her aunt and to America. Her self-confidence and her ways of doing things makes her find herself in trouble again and again.

Her first true friend is Hannah. Hannah is a little old lady who lives alone. Hearing of this friendship, her uncle forbids her to see Hannah again. Against his will Kit secretly sees the old woman and grows fonder of her.

Walk through Kits’ first year of America, through the greatest ordeal of her life and find the most unlikely of heroes.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond is written by Elizabeth George Speare, and is a winner of the Newbery Medal.

Tales at the Mousehole

A cat, two mice, and a dog… an unlikely group of friends? Just the opposite in Tales at the Mousehole.

Come meet Bob and Ozzie, two mice who are bored with their posts. They are so bored that they will even listen to a cat. July is a big house cat who loves to talk and is always trying to coax Bob and Ozzie out of their mouse hole. And let’s not forget about Maximilian, the Chihuahua. He’s a puppy out to have a great adventure.

Together, you get a wonderfully spun tale of four friends who love and depend on each other more than they realize.

Tales at the Mousehole is written by Mary Stolz.
